A Year of Firsts: Welcoming Tilly and Reflecting on 2025

I’m writing this with a sleeping baby on my chest, twinkle lights on the tree, and a heart absolutely brimming. 2025 was the most transformative year of our lives — one filled with milestones, miracles, and moments I’ll never forget.
From becoming parents to sharing our family story on national television (still can’t believe it), this year stretched us in beautiful, bittersweet, and surprising ways. I wanted to share a few of the highlights, the joys, and the changes that shaped us.
Matilda Alice Bach is here!
The biggest and sweetest news of all: our daughter was born this fall. Matilda arrived in October weighing 7 lbs 5 oz and measuring 20 inches long. After a long labor that ended in a C-section, she was finally in our arms — healthy, perfect, and pure magic. Our world changed in an instant.
Why “Matilda Alice”?
We named her Matilda to honor the Australian Women’s National Soccer Team — the Matildas (or The Tillies) — whose grit and spirit captured our hearts while we were living in Australia during the 2023 World Cup. We loved the strength of the name and the sweetness of the nickname Tilly, which we use daily now.
Her middle name, Alice, is a family heirloom. She shares it with my great-grandmother, Alice Loraine, the woman I was named after and one of my mom’s favorite people. Giving Tilly that name felt like a thread of legacy — tying generations of strong, loving women together.
Holding Joy and Grief Together
In October, we also said goodbye to my maternal grandfather, Thomas Shelton Boggess — “Paka Doc.” He was a pillar in our family, and the loss was (and is) immense. I miss him deeply — especially in this season of new life. There’s something about becoming a parent and losing a grandparent at the same time that cracks you open in unexpected ways.
2025 Family Highlights
We squeezed in a lot this year — before and after baby life began! Here are some snapshots from our wild, wonderful 2025:
Rasmus turned 30 and we celebrated with a snowy trip to Breckenridge. We enjoyed cozy mountain town dinners and lots of golf.
I went on Shark Tank (!) My dad and I pitched Z-CoiL Footwear on Shark Tank Season 17, Episode 1. It was surreal to share our story on national TV. More to come on that adventure soon.
Baby showers & babymoon — We were wrapped in love by friends and family this year. Our baby showers were joyful and overwhelming in the best way. We snuck in a babymoon to Scottsdale, soaking up the sun before the sleepless nights began.
Rasmus’s Stryker team won Team of the Year! I’m so proud of him — he’s been thriving professionally while also being the most loving and present new dad.
Weddings & lifelong friendships — We celebrated Spencer and Conner’s beautiful wedding in Durango. That weekend reminded me how lucky we are to have friends who feel like family.
Family Updates
We’re not the only ones with big news. Here’s a little roundup of what our loved ones are up to:
Rachel (my sister!) graduates from med school in May and will start her ER residency. She's incredible — strong, smart, and so dedicated.
Adela is still in Dunedin, New Zealand, living her best coastal life with Danny. We’re dreaming of a visit.
My dad, Andres, and I are building the future of Z-CoiL together — and having so much fun doing it. He’s still workshopping his grandpa name… Avô and Rafiki are top contenders.
Nic (Raz’s brother) is thriving in Denver with Jennifer and their four beloved pets.
Janni and Peter (Raz’s parents) are now proudly known as Farmor and Farfar — Danish for grandma and grandpa. Janni came to stay with us for 10 days after Tilly was born and I honestly don’t know how we would’ve survived without her.
What This Year Taught Me
More than anything, this year softened and humbled me. Becoming a mom has made everything more tender — time, love, loss, even daily routines. I’m learning to move slower, to savor more, and to accept help (still working on that one).
Our hearts are full of gratitude. For the people in our lives, for the love that’s carried us, and for the chance to step into this next chapter with open arms.
